Christian Science Society, Berkeley is one of many worldwide branch churches and societies of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Mary Baker Eddy established The First Church of Christ Scientist in 1879 "to commemorate the word and works of our Master, (Christ Jesus,) which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing."

Our Pastor - The Holy Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary BakerEddy.

First Church of Christ Scientist, 2619 Dwight Way, Berkeley, designed by Bernard Maybeck, was built in 1910 by the 48 original members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Berkeley.
From The Christian Science Journal, December 1905, Among the Churches, Progress in Berkeley, California
"First Church of Christ, Scientist, Berkeley held its first service in Wilkin's Hall, 2412 Haste Street, on Sunday, March 12, 1905, and its present membership— October, 1905—is forty-eight. A lot was bought (2892 Dwight Way) in June, and a church building will be erected later on".

If you will be joining us at a Sunday Service for the first time, here is what a service contains:

  • An organ prelude - William Ludke organist -welcomes all.
  • The Sunday service opens with a hymn, a short reading from the Bible followed by silent prayer, and an invitation to all, to join in the audible repetition of the Lord's Prayer. A solo follows by our soloist, Kathleen Moss-Miller.
  • The major body of the service consists of selections from the King James Version of the Bible, and the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
The selections are read, through-out the world.
  • The service closes with a hymn, and an organ postlude.

We hope to greet you soon.

  • Organist - William Ludtke

"Our Father which art in heaven,"

"Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious,"

"Hallowed be Thy name."

"Adorable One."

"Thy kingdom come."

"Thy kingdom is come; Thou art ever-present."

"Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."

"Enable us to know,--as in heaven, so on earth,--God is omnipotent, supreme."

"Give us this day our daily bread;"

"Give us grace for to-day; feed the famished affections;"

"And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors."

"And Love is reflected in love;"

"And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil;"

"And God leadeth us not into temptation, but delivereth us from sin, disease, and death."

"For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever."

"For God is infinite, all-power, all Life, Truth, Love, over all, and All."

"Amen"
